Elevatedβ cholesterol isnβt necessarily dangerous. Sometimes itβs even linked to lower mortality, especially in people older than 60. High LDL is associated with lower all-cause and cardiovascular mortality and that's right. But research has also shown that most people who have major heart attacks have βnormal cholesterol.β

So, what is the problem, you may ask. The total number of cholesterol is not as important as the size and number particles in your cholesterol.

Also instead of focusing on the total cholesterol, its preferable to check the triglycerides to HDL ratio. This is a better predictor of a heart problem.
β
A third point to note is that LDL on its own does not pose a threat, only oxidized LDL does.
β
Below are factors that increases the risk of oxidized LDL
1. Having LDL particles that hang out longer in the blood.
2. Eating too much linoleic acid (itβs the polyunsaturated fat in the lipoprotein that oxidizes).
3. Being deficient in vitamin E
4. Having type 2 diabetes and/or high blood sugar
5. Not exercising.
6. Inflammation
